Chinese audiences have to wait for foreign movies to be imported

The curtain may have come down on the 84th Academy Awards but that does not mean that award-winning productions will shortly be coming to a screen in one of world’s largest film markets.

Just a few days ago, on Feb 24, the British film The King’s Speech hit Chinese theaters, one year after it won the Oscar for best picture.

Roman Polanski’s The Pianist was released in Chinese theaters in 2004, one year after its Oscar glory.

China to Submit ‘The Flowers of War’ in Foreign-Language Oscar Race
Beijing, September 23rd 2011 (Hollywood Reporter)

Zhang Yimou’s The Flowers of War, starring Christian Bale, will be China’s submission for the best foreign-language film Academy Award, China’s Film Bureau announced on Friday.

Adapted by screenwriter Liu Heng from Yan Geling’s historical novel 13 Flowers of Nanjing and produced by the director’s long-time producing partner Zhang Weiping, the movie is set in Nanking in 1937 as the Japanese Imperial Army overruns China’s capital city. Bale plays John Haufman, an American missionary who helped protect a group of schoolgirls and prostitutes from the invading army.

Spikes Asia Announces 2011 Winners

The Spikes Asia Advertising Festival, the regional awards and festival for creative excellence in advertising and communications, is pleased to announce the winners of the 2011 awards who were announced and honoured at the Awards Ceremony taking place in Singapore last night.
The Grands Prix have been awarded as follows:

- Outdoor Grand Prix and Print Grand Prix and Print & Poster Craft Grand Prix: JWT Shanghai, China, ‘Heaven & Hell’, Samsonite
- Media Grand Prix: Creativeland Asia, Mumbai, India, ‘3D Experience’, Audi India
- Promo & Activation Grand Prix and PR Grand Prix: Clemenger BBDO Melbourne, Australia, ‘Break Up’, National Australia Bank
- Design Grand Prix: Creative Juice\Bangkok (TBWA), Thailand, ‘Tamiya Calendar’, Siam Tamiya
- Radio Grand Prix: Lowe Singapore, ‘Awesome Light’, ‘Chase’, ‘Look at me, Dad!’, Samroc Paint and Hardware
- Digital Grand Prix: Colenso BBDO Auckland, New Zealand, ‘Doggelganger’, Mars, Pedigree Adoption Drive

No Grands Prix were awarded in the Direct, Film, Mobile, Film Craft and Integrated categories.
DDB were presented with the Network of the Year trophy with BBDO coming second followed by JWT in third.

Ogilvy & Mather Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur were honoured with the Agency of the Year. Runners up were DDB Group Singapore coming in second place and Mudra Communications, Mumbai in third.

The inaugural Independent Agency of the Year was awarded to Creativeland Asia, Mumbai with Taiyo Kikaku, Tokyo in second and AOI Advertising Promotion, Tokyo in third.

The Media Agency of the Year trophy was awarded to Dentsu, Tokyo with JWT Beijing taking second place and in third, Ogilvy Beijing.

We are very happy that Realm of Light / Adams by Softmachine took the 1st place, as Robinson Steinke, the partner and managing director of teh vfx alliance worked as Production Manager & Production Supervisor on that Production.
